LAND ROVER

We partnered with Showman Fabricators on a stage set structure for the unveiling of Land Rover’s newest concept vehicle, while also providing a 3D projection mapping surface as part of a vibrant sensory experience. The event was also in celebration of the new partnership between the automaker and Virgin Galactic, in which Land Rover fleets are integrated into Virgin Galactic’s desert test center and spaceport operations.

During the 2014 New York Auto Show, Moss’s fabric quarter dome provided a structure for the big reveal of Land Rover’s Discovery Vision concept vehicle. The event, on the deck of the namesake aircraft carrier at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, utilized a large-scale sight and sound experience with projection mapping on both the ship’s massive command structure and the fabric dome showpiece.

Like many of the tension fabric structures we’ve created for projection mapping, the stage structure was constructed of Moss Classic round tubing and covered in a fabric skin of lined white Moss Knit, a matte high-gain fabric that provides a clean, crisp projection surface. The dome structure was 34′ wide.

At the reveal’s anticipatory moment – after projection mapping patterns built up suspense, the curtain was pulled away, and the lights were shining brightly – the dome provided a dazzling backdrop. The pure white color field showcased Land Rover’s futuristic, lustrous concept vehicle, making the experience all the more spectacular.
