In March 2005, Moss' Vice President of Marketing, Libby Santin, spent a day with three classes of second year students in the Fashion Institute of Technology's (FIT) Display and Exhibit Design program, introducing them to tension fabric exhibitry. The students examined the structure of tension fabric products and ways they can be used. After the presentations, the students were challenged to come up with ways to incorporate tension fabric structures into their upcoming final exhibit.
Moss donated 10 pieces to incorporate into the students' exhibit, "Been There, Bought That: New York Souvenirs Past and Present," a series of imaginative displays of New York memorabilia.
The students used the Moss structures in a unique way, but more importantly had the experience of working with a professional vendor. Larry Langham of FIT described the experience of working with Moss as a rich one for the students. "It was like having an anchor for the exhibit, for the structure of the display, and also for the process of pulling together the exhibit."
The donated Moss structures were used as a backdrop for the display, creating a graceful and elegant city skyline.
The Display and Exhibit Design program at FIT is a two-year program designed to provide students with hands on training in the techniques of exhibit design and display. Every spring second year students collaborate on a final display held in the premier exhibition space at the museum at FIT.
