Iconathon - “floating” public art

Iconathon - “floating” public art
We were honored to fabricate and help install an exhibit at the Raleigh Convention Center in North Carolina, in partnership with our Moss dealer Exhibit Resources. The art installation is the brain child of Jim Hickman at BtB Marketing and the exhibit was supported by Cree Lighting.

The Iconathon is a series of design workshops organized by The Noun Project to create symbols for the public domain. The symbols used in this installation relate specifically to sustainable energy. Hickman's design placed these symbols from the Iconathon on cubes that appear to be pushing out of the wall with a final cube falling at an angle.

Moss used a proprietary extrusion to fabricate the cubes. Iconathon symbols were printed on fabric skins with flat gasket connections (also referred to as SEG - silicone edge graphics). The end result is an attractive public art display in what was previously a large static area between the hotel and convention center.

Our Grove Village plant is now recycling all fabric waste that is generated during the production process. Scrap fabric is collected, baled, and stored at the plant; once there are bales enough to fill a truck, we ship the fabric to a textile processing plant where it can be re-purposed.
